KATIN RELEASES SPRING 2016 COLLECTION
Influenced by Katin's Legacy
Southern California (July 2015) — Katin, the original California surf company and lifestyle brand, is excited to announce the release of its Spring ’16 collection, drawing inspiration from the legendary Katin family, as well as Katin’s birthplace at the iconic Kanvas By Katin surf shop in Surfside, Calif.
Walter and Nancy Katin not only possessed an incomparable talent for creating nearly indestructible trunks, but carried an unrelenting devotion to the sea. Walter “The Captain” Katin lived and breathed the ocean; building trunks was his craft and spending time out at sea was his passion.
The influence of Walter’s love for the sea and his many boating explorations took Katin Creative Director Jason Rodriguez on a journey through Katin’s oceanic past and is directly reflected throughout the color narrative and graphic guidance of the upcoming Spring 2016 collection.
In general, all of the collections are themed from a time, place, person or thing in Katin's past. The Spring ‘16 collection is inspired and themed from an interview quote from Glenn Hughes, stating that Walter Katin bought Glenn his first fishing pole and Glenn, his mother Sato, Walter and Nancy would often spend nights aboard Walter’s boat “The Southern Seas,” Rodriguez said.
“The all over printed artwork for the surf trunks, hats, button-down shirts and tee shirt graphics are inspired by the above quote which directed me to the ocean,” Rodriguez said.
Named after Walter’s boat, “The Southern Seas,” the Katin Spring 2016 collection infuses versatile shades of indigo and turquoise complemented by beige, gray and lighthouse-red and yellow hues woven within flexible fibers. In company with unique cuts and washes, rugged, ocean-inspired prints permeate throughout the collection.
In addition to new pant and short silhouettes, the collection also features unique surf trunk prints, incorporating deep-sea creature graphics, fishing lure designs and colorful nautical elements, from green kelp and island brush to surf white wash and tropical fish.
The collection will make its debut at the following trade shows:
AGENDA - Long Beach (July 8-9, Booth: F18 )
Liberty Fairs - Las Vegas (August 17-19)
Surf Expo - Orlando (September 10 - 12)
Katin’s Spring 2016 collection will hit national retailers and better boutiques nationwide in early February and will retail between $28 – $75.
