Hand-Stitched With Love Since 1961

May 20, 2015 1 min read

There is something captivating and even magical about someone creating something with their own two bare hands. The ability to create something incredible and useful out of raw materials takes true talent and passion. Legendary Katin seamstress Sato Hughes possesses just that.

Seamstress of Katin Surf Shop since 1961, Hughes has meticulously handcrafted more than a quarter million trunks with her own hands over the years, and continues sewing strong today with a work ethic and passion that is second to none.

For our newly released Spring/Summer 2015 collection, we drew inspiration from Sato and her Japanese heritage, as well as Katin’s birthplace at the iconic Kanvas By Katin shop in Surfside, Calif.

Shades of indigo complemented by dusty rose, 74’ beige, and mauve are woven within the natural fibers alongside unique textures and finishing washes while Japanese-inspired prints and vertical stripes permeate throughout the collection.

You can check out the entire S/S '15 collection, inspired by Sato, on our online lookbook HERE, and shop these pieces on our new website at katinusa.com HERE
