Right where it began in 1977, on the north side of Huntington Beach Pier, the Katin Pro/Am Team Challenge is back. Founded in 1977 by Nancy Katin, this uniquely strong camaraderie-driven surfing event boasts a rich and memorable history, with a roster of winners that includes world champions Shaun Tomson, Tom Curren, Martin Potter, Sunny Garcia, and Kelly Slater and the 2009 US Open of Surfing Champion, Brett Simpson.
This event also attracts a wide range of surf and action sports brands, including Hurley, Quiksilver, Lost, Fox, Reef, Jack's and many more, creating a friendly brand-rivalry and fueling widespread team and company support.
The Katin Pro-Am Team Challenge will feature 24 teams of four surfers competing in the same four-person, open-draw format that Nancy Katin originally envisioned when she founded the event in 1977. Team results will be determined by the placement of individual competitors, with cash prizes totalling $10,000 and coverage in Surfing Magazine, FUEL TV and other local media.
This is a two-day event that will be held during the window of January 12-17.
